NPA, since its inception, has promoted and strives to recognize individuals and entities which have worked tirelessly to conduct research, implement best practices and/or who have devoted themselves to advocacy for continuing improvements in the field of perinatal health and health care. NPA's annual awards program is the on-going commitment to fostering advancement in perinatal health and is held in conjunction with the Annual Clinical Conference.

Award Categories

Gold Star State Perinatal Association Initiative Award
For Outstanding Contribution to Maternal Child Health at the State Level

[ Winner 2010 Indiana Perinatal Association ]

PURPOSE

  • To honor a state perinatal association with innovative initiatives in legislative activities, membership development, research, education and program development.

SELECTION

  • Nomination may be made by any individual or organizational member of NPA through completion of an application form

Gold Star Individual Contribution to Maternal Child Health

[ Winner 2012 Lower Hudson Valley Perinatal Network ]

PURPOSE

  • To honor an individual physician, nurse, midwife, social worker, dietician, respiratory therapist, or other health care provider, politician, lawyer, teacher, or parent who has contributed tirelessly and largely behind the scenes to enhance the maternal child health cause.

SELECTION

Gold Star Individual Contribution to Maternal/Child Health At the National/International Level

[ Winner 2012 European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI) ]

PURPOSE

  • To honor an individual who through his/her life and work has made a significant contribution having a national or international impact upon the health and welfare of mothers and infants through leadership in education, research and national priorities.

SELECTION

  • Nomination may be made by any individual or organizational member of NPA through completion of an application

Gold Star The Stanley Graven Award
For Outstanding Contribution To The National Perinatal Association

PURPOSE

  • To honor an individual who through his/her life and works has made a significant contribution toward enhancement of the cause of NPA.

SELECTION

  • Any Board Member of NPA may make a nomination through completion of form an application form
Gold Star Becky Hatfield Family Support Award

[ Winner 2012 Hand to Hold ]

PURPOSE

  • To honor an individual or group who has provided substantial support to families dealing with the emotional aspects of high-risk maternal/child health.

ELIGIBILITY

  • An individual or group who has made a contribution to enhance support for families coping with the emotional aspects of maternal/child health.

Gold Star National Perinatal Assocations Transcultural Care Award

[ Winner 2010 Diane M. Ashton, MD, MPH ]

PURPOSE

  • To honor one individual or organization for its outstanding efforts to improve perinatal care through a transcultural initiative.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Nomination may be made by any individual or organizational member of NPA through completion of an application form.

Gold Star Legislative Award

[ Winner 2010 Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard ]

PURPOSE

  • To honor an individual legislator (federal or state) who through his/her life and works has made a significant contribution toward enhancement of the cause of NPA.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Nomination may be made by any individual or organizational member of NPA through completion of an application form.

Gold Star NPA Research Awards

The Research Committee of the National Perinatal Association invites abstracts to be considered for poster presentation at the annual conference. Any abstract with an application in perinatal health is acceptable; however, those, which address the multidisciplinary approach to perinatal health, are encouraged. Abstracts may describe contributions to theory, policy development, program development and evaluation, delivery of health or related services, or research. Abstracts presented at State Perinatal Association meetings are encouraged. Abstracts previously presented at other scientific conferences are also invited. There are two categories for submissions:

  • Models of Care [Winner 2012 Janet Simdon, Fort Health Care, Ft. Atkinson, WI; Brent MacWilliams, College of Nursing, Univ. of WI-Oshkosh, Oshkosh, WI]
  • Applied or Basic Research [Winner 2011 Charlotte Wool, York College of Pennsylvania]

PRESENTATION:

  • The awards will be presented at the NPA Annual Clinical Conference.
  • Topic Awards: The principcal presenter for both the Models of Care and Research category awards will receive a one-year membership in NPA and a plaque acknowledging the achievement.
