Improving Access to Perinatal Care:
Confronting Disparities and Inequities in Maternal-Infant Health
The National Perinatal Association is committed to inclusive, interdisciplinary collaboration. We know the importance of having all stakeholders at the table - including students, parents, advocates, and those most affected by health care disparities and lack of access.
We also recognize that there can be barriers to attending and participating. So every year we offer a limited number of scholarships to those who might not otherwise be able to attend our conferences. These scholarship opportunities include:
The Dr. Albert "Al" L. Pizzica Scholarship
The purpose of the scholarship is to fully fund the cost of registration to the National Perinatal Association’s annual meeting for trainees and students, regardless of discipline within the neonatal/perinatal arena, and encourage future leaders to practice multidisciplinary neonatal-perinatal care. The Hatfield & Hynan Family Advocacy Scholarship
The National Perinatal Association's Family Advocacy Network (FAN) champions collaborative relationships between families and the medical professions who care for them. We believe that family-centered care begins with including families in the creation of policies, procedures, and best practices.
However, we recognize that most parents, families, and family advocates do not have the same institutional or organizational funding and support to facilitate their participation in NPA activities that many of our other colleagues do. So in 2018 the NPA established this scholarship program in order to support and facilitate parent participation. It is named in honor of the founding parent members of the Family Advocacy Network, Becky Hatfield and Mike Hynan. These two parent leaders and advocates exemplify what parent participation can do to revolutionize care.
